Achievements:
Intelligent programming enabled Hewatt Earthworks to consistently place,
compact and trim 9000 tonne of pavement gravel per day. By stockpiling
material from the commencement of the job, we were not restricted by our
suppliers capability to produce only 3000 tonne of gravel per day and
completed this job on time and under budget.

Horse Park Drive

Earthworks were the first contractor to negotiate approval for blasting in
the ACT with ACT Workcover, since the failed Canberra Hospital Implosion in
1998.
We were responsible for all coordination and control of
blasting, which necessitated complete closure of the Federal Highway and
Majura Rd and liaison with the control tower at Canberra Airport for each of
the 24 shots fired.

Russell
Restructuring of the road network
within the Russell Precinct and the construction of roads to link
Constitution Avenue and the Apex Roundabout to Russell Drive. The new roads

Barton Highway

carriageway highway on an existing single carriageway alignment, carrying
10,000 vehicle movements per day.

to fill. Hewatt Earthworks developed haulage diagrams for the entire
project to enable pre placement of materials into stockpiles prior to
changing traffic movements.
Achievements:
Design, construction and operation of a signalised scraper crossing across
the Barton Highway, enabling movement of 90,000m3 of material.
This measure ensured both vehicle and plant safety with minimal disruption
to traffic flow.

Earthworks had to undertake our own thorough investigations and explorations
to accurately locate all underground services, as the original 60 year old
plans did not reflect the actual service location. This enabled us to plan
connections and disconnections while maintaining supply to critical Defence
establishments.
